I'm really quite nervous about this, but here it is. I would like you to welcome my very 1st newsletter!! Hoorah! (I'm still new to it, so please bear with me haha)

Now, let's go back to the topic.
If you guys are following me on my Instagram. You guys would probably know that I freakin love knowing and doing a lot of design styles especially when it comes to logotypes. Each design style offers different color, voice, and attitude to your designs. Knowing or being familiar with design style could really help you elevate your designs skills by knowing how to use them and when to use them.

Now for our first style that we need to talk about is Y2K style.

💮 Here is a very brief history of Y2K designs. (I know you guys are not fond of history, but knowing a bit of history helps us better understand its proper function and usage.)

Y2K (or kaybug) is a type of style that was popular during the late 90s to early 2000s.

This type of design style relies on the use of technology and futuristic looks, signaling the optimism of the coming of the modern tech-based era. (the coming of internet era 2000s)

💮 Here are some samples from brands:

💮 Sooo what have we observed with Y2K aesthetics?

If your answer is they do love to be outlined... yes you are correct!
If your answer is they feel like they are attempting to feel futuristic but also feel like outdated... yes you are also right! :)
For simpler terms: they are somewhat similar to retro-futurism when it comes to their characteristics.

💮Now here's my interpretation of this style:

For this style to work, just think of adding an emboss and outline on your text, and voila!! You could also do some very futuristic type looking as well.

💮So the last question, when is the best time to use this style?

When you do want to convey, retro-futurism, dynamics, activeness, and entertainment in your design (music, games, videos, etc.)

Hopefully, this small guide helps you to be intrigued by this style!

This is one of the styles where you could play around a lot without going out on the real essence of Y2K so make sure to play around with this style :)
