We are now into our 2nd newsletter! I know I'm still ain't the best at this but I'm really hoping you are able to learn something new after reading this mail. hehe

Unto to the topic!
Retro Script! This is the style we will be discussing today. If you guys are able to follow or have seen my Instagram, You would probably be familiar with this style. This is actually one of my go-to styles on letterings because of its really fun vibe! Plus this style is also quite versatile about the usage of a lot, I mean a lot of colors.!

⭐Let's talk about very briefly how this style came up.

Retro Script typography has started booming during the 70s.

Like what we have known in our schools, 70s have been one of the most influential times in fashion, , music, design, and art. 70s Introduced as to the"hippie style", disco, punk, funk, and the very groovy and swash heavy fonts/typefaces.

Most 70s letterforms were flowy, chunky, free, and very groovy. This style was also a reflection of how people then lived. People wanted to express themselves as extravagantly as possible through music, fashion, and art.

❇70s Swashes:

Swashes were also quite popular in vintage 70s fonts. A swash is a typographical flourish that is extended, exaggerated serifs and terminals on a letterform. These swashes were like a homage to Art Nouveau flourishes, the movement that inspired flourishes in every aspect of the design world.

I actually can't find some current popular brands that use this style since 70s look are somewhat vintage, which of course most brands wants a modern or update look.

Here are some of my own renditions of this style:

⭐Sooo what have we observed with retro script vibe?

If your answer is they are chunky and funky...
If your answer is they feel like they somewhat remind you of a very good bar on a Friday or Saturday night with cold beers and great disco songs...
If your answer is they feel like very "good - vibes" or very hippie...
For simpler terms: they are very flowy and could immediately provide you good vibes upon seeing it. That is probably retro script!

⭐For this style to work, just think of doing fat and chunky calligraphy. Remember most retro scripts are modified calligraphy. Meaning, rather than "handwritten", they are "hand-drawn" They just tend to emphasize the "thicks" make it more groovy and fun.

⭐So the last question, when is the best time to use this style?

When you do want to convey casualness, good vibes, hand-drawn feel, and entertainment in your design (music, arts, food, place, etc.)
