⭐Anywayyyyys, let's talk about types now.

This is the style we will be discussing today. Like retro scripts, this type is also one of my go-to styles on letterings because of its really fun vibe! The freedom on how I could play with the baseline, thickness of letters, or even the cases (uppercase and lowercase.) is such a fun style to play with!

⭐Let's NOT TALK about its history this time since it's technically the same as the retro scripts haha.

Like the retro script, I actually can't find some current popular brands that use this style since 70s look are somewhat vintage, which of course most brands wants a modern or updated look.

Unlike logotypes, these groovy and psychedelic types are mostly used for fonts/typefaces. It is due to very "hippie" and “free” vibe of it that could be utlitlize more effectively on a shirt, magazines, posters,banner designs etc.

Here are some of my own renditions of this style:

⭐Sooo what have we observed with this style?

If your answer is they feel like they are dancing with the baseline...

If your answer is they feel like the letters interact with one another...
If your answer is that the letterforms don't feel like its molded with the regular letter shapes...
For simpler terms: if they feel like it is really meant for a shirt, banner upon seeing it. That is probably groovy type!

⭐To do this style, just think of deforming the classic letter shapes into a more expressive one (curvier, sharp corners, etc.) Remember, like the retro script, this one also felt like its modified. Meaning, rather than "handwritten", they are "hand-drawn".

*Legibility isn't the first priority in this style, expressiveness is! BUTTTT, I do want to remind you that at least make it readable. After all, types are meant to be read, aren't they? hehe

⭐So the last question, when is the best time to use this style?

Technically, this is the same with the retro script. The only difference is that this style is more prominent in shirts, banners, and posters, etc.

We're now done with the 70s type(for now). hehe. This is honestly so fun to present to you guys since this era is one of my "goat" era for my designs.
